168: Best of 2016
Hi Guys, just a quick post to tell you that the results for the Best Icon of 2016 have been announced, and the one of my mine that was voted the best.........

Well it was a surprise, not a good one I sucked at icons last year, I did not make anything after April due to stress and depression. I'm not happy with it it just looks rarer crappy a two minute job nothing special that stands out, it seems whoever voted needs better votes, that is why I'm taking a break from icon making for a few weeks as I seem to be improving on my techniques or have the drive to make icons any more, when I enter I seem to always place with a mod's choice never a good placing and it's always the crappy ones that win the prizes or the crappy icons that win instead of me when mine looks better.

Thank you for all you voted if you did!!
Top 15

I'm happy with most of my Top 15 as voted by the voters, these have a good mixture of different techniques, all though the ones that have taken the time to make are lesser down the votes!

My personal Picks

There were some of my favourites that I feel were worth of voting even did not get picked, which I think have been good, that just missed out :( These all should have got higher votes as I have been working a lot with my colouring and backgrounds and there is improvement in these - or maybe just wishful thinking!

Well that is enough ranting/bitterness about why I'm not happy with some of icons, it seems that voters always pick the ones that took two seconds instead of ones that took longer, most other makers say this to, if I enter next year could I have another McFly/Stock one please?

I can completely relate to this. Almost all the time, my laziest icons are a big hit, and I'm left wondering if it's even worth trying out new techniques when they get passed up anyway.

I think it's important to remember that people are only seeing the end result, not the effort that we put in. Also, just because we don't feel 100% about our work doesn't mean that it's necessarily bad. Speaking for myself, I like your POTC icon because it's a refreshingly different approach to the cap. The warm coloring hints at a muggy summer vibe, the sharpness is perfect, and it has a matte-finish kind of look that is mesmerising. Yes, I'm surprised it won Best of the Year, but I don't think it's a bad showing of your technical skill <3

You've made some amazing icons this year, (and years previous) and shown a lot of growth. I think the efforts you pour into the icons that don't get as much attention is just setting yourself up for more growth and better icons down the line. Keep doing what makes you happy, it's absolutely worth it, so long as you're enjoying the journey!

Thank you for your comment and understanding, I'm just a little bit annoyed that sometimes that I have not made good enough icons last year because of personal reasons that still affect me.

Good hear that you like the icon itself, I'm just surprised that one won a competition, that is supposed to be best when I don't think I have improved through out the last year, all though it looks like you say, I'm not impressed with the selection of ones chosen, and the ones that came close to winning I was happier with, I suppose I'm so critical of them

I have produced better in the last few years, lets hope this last year ones are better and I'm happy to have a more complex icon that wins
