Ask The Maker Tutorial

Firstly before I start this tut - I never copy other makers work, only use it as inspiration for my own work, I was very angry to hear these comments from an icon com I'm not mentioning due to the fact they are not nice people, so thank you for the nice comments and [livejournal.com profile] queen_bartonia & [livejournal.com profile] setentpet for requesting this tut. Right back to the matter in hand :)

To

Program : Photoshop Elements 11 with Easy.filter add on
Steps: 7
Notes: Includes curves and layer masking. Can be translated to all full versions of Photoshop and versions of Photoshop elements with Grants Tools add-on’s
1)
I'm using this cap from Doctor Who
 photo 349.jpg
Which I cropped using Rectangle selection tool to fixed Ratio, to include a little extra space on left, then I re-sized this 200*200 and placed on a new file the same size
 photo Untitled-2.png
2)Then I did a minor bit of lighting using curves - Filter - Easy.filter - Curves with the following values
RGB - In 175 Out 102
Red - In 255 Out 150
 photo step2.png

3) Then I did the layer masking of the back of the Doctor, you can use the magic wand, and background easer tool, but for a cleaner look, I would use a layer mask to erase the background area
Layer - Layer Mask - Revival all
Then I picked out the brush tool, not changing any of the settings using the default settings with a brush size of 10 to start , the reducing down to 2 to get the edges of the doctor so no bits of the back are apparent
 photo step3.png

3)Then once finished go to Layer Mask and click apply , it should look like this
 photo step3_2.png

4) Then I took the second cap
 photo 348.jpg
, and resized it to 200*200 and placed it behind the cut out like this

Move it around little, till it sits in the preferred position

5) Then to add some more Green’s to it I took these textures
- from _x_cielogris and set it to multiply 24%
- from [livejournal.com profile] lookslikerain for a slight painted look set it to soft light to 19%

6) Then I added this light texture from ?? to screen to 46%

7) This should be your layers at the end

7) Once I added all those I merged it down and re-sized it done to 100*100 and then saved it in the png format, so you will end up with

Thanks for reading any questions?

Thanks for making this tutorial for me! I really appreciate it. :)

I'm sorry to hear people said not nice things about this icon and/or about you. That's awful! I dislike anyone who feel they can slam another person's work or another person just because. That's so wrong.

*hugs to you*

*boos to the awful people*
